For children, play is simply play, it does not need to be assigned additional meaning. The responsibility of advocacy lies with us, the advocates, to carefully design and delicately facilitate these initiatives in an Asian society like Taiwan, where play is often undervalued.
This study builds upon a decade of advocacy for play-friendly outdoor environments in Taiwan and examines cases from the past two years in which play has been leveraged as a medium to advance child-centric urban design initiatives. These include advocacy for child-friendly street design, family-friendly museum planning, and other related efforts. Through these cases, we see a more comprehensive vision emerge of an inclusive, child-friendly, and play-infused urban childhood.
