Biography
Associate Professor Jill Sewell AM MBBS FRACP DMedSci (hon) FAICD
Jill is a retired developmental/behavioural paediatrician from the Centre for Community Child Health at the Royal Children’s Hospital. Her interests include early childhood development, training in community paediatrics, clinical bioethics, medical education and regulation, safety and quality in health care, leadership and women in medicine. Jill was a lead advocate for the importance of play at the Royal Children’s Hospital in recent years, and led the National Child Health Poll study on ‘Australian Families: How we play’ published in February 2023.
Jill is a Homeward Bound alumnus (leadership program for women in STEMM).
Jill has was Chair of the Quality and Safety Executive Council and chair of the Victorian Clinical Council, Safer Care Victoria, and co lead of the Victorian Paediatric Clinical Network. She served on the board of Alfred Health. She chaired the Specialist Education Accreditation Committee of the Australian Medical Council from 2009 and was President 2015-2018.
Jill was President of the Paediatric and Child Health Division, and President of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians 2004-2006.
In 2005 Jill was made a Member of the Order of Australia for services to child health.
