Biography

From the parade ground to the boardroom, Sarah Carney’s journey has been anything but ordinary. She began her career in the Australian Army before globe‑trotting through Europe and the Middle East—dabbling in everything from think tanks to ballet. Today, Sarah is the National Chief Technology Officer for Microsoft, helping governments and enterprises shape what’s next in technology. As the regional Responsible AI lead and a member of Microsoft’s AI red team, she’s focused on building trust and safeguarding AI for generations to come. A passionate advocate for education and inclusion, Sarah serves on advisory boards for universities and TAFEs, sits on the advisory board of The Smith Family, and was recently named the fourth most powerful woman in Australian tech.
